Theatre Work Study Positions

Students who complete the FAFSA, specify an interest in work-study, and are early applicants are automatically considered for a work-study award.  You must attend college on at least a half-time basis to maintain work-study eligibility.  The maximum award is $2,500 per academic year. Theatre Marketing & Administration

  • Departmental Assistants support the day to day operations of the Department of Theatre by maintaining a regular presence in the departmental office, handling all phone inquiries and performing typical office duties including maintaining mailing lists, data entry, student recruitment activities, errands, and some assistance with publicity.  Must keep regular/daily hours and have computer skills.
  • Publicity Assistants support all areas of publicity for the Department of Theatre by assisting with the facilitation of media--brochures, posters, advertisements, post-cards, displays, etcetera—through creation of documents, poster hanging, preparation of mailings, deliveries, and other publicity related work.  Great opportunity for Business & Marketing majors.
  • House Managers are vital in managing the interface with patrons of all public productions that take place in the Theatre Department.  Duties include maintaining lobby area, seating area, traffic flow, patrons with special abilities, and all communications with stage managers.  Hours are limited to Fort Lewis College Theatre performances, approximately 30-40 hrs. per term. Applicants must be available weekends and evenings. Position can be combined with Departmental Assistant or Publicity Assistant positions.  Great opportunity for Business/Arts Administration majors.
  • Box-Office Managers set-up and handle the selling of tickets for Fort Lewis College Theatre productions through on-line, outreach, telephone and in-person venues.  Must have excellent accounting skills (Microsoft Excel) for spreadsheet reports. Must be available for night and weekend activities.  Great opportunity for Business/Accounting majors.
  • Concessions Managers work with the department to plan, design, organize and handle the selling of concessions for all Theatre Department productions.  Duties include buying and preparing concessions, sales, and post show clean-up and close-out. Must be available for night and weekend activities.  Great opportunity for Business/Accounting majors.

Theatre Production/Costuming:

  • First Hand-Costume assists the designer of each production in the building of costumes and supervision of students in this process.  Great opportunity for Theatre and Art majors.
  • Costume Shop Assistants must have sewing abilities and will assist in stitching, cutting and supervising other stitchers in the costume shop as we build costumes for theatre departmental productions.  Great opportunity for Theatre and Art Majors.

Theatre Production/Technical Theatre: 

  •  Scene Shop Supervisors/Assistant Technical Directors will supervise students and take lead responsibilities in the construction of scenery for Department of Theatre productions.  The students work closely with the Technical Director to help maintain the safety of the scene shop and theatres.  Must have carpentry skills and demonstrate leadership skills.  Great opportunity for Theatre and Art Majors.
  • Scene Shop Assistants assist the designer and Technical Director in constructing the set for each Department of Theatre productions.  The position will also help maintain the safety of the scene shop and theatres.  Must have carpentry skills.  Great opportunity for Theatre Majors This is an entry level position.
  • Carpenters/Master Carpenters assist the designer in constructing the set for each Department of Theatre production.  In addition, the carpenter will help the designer supervise students in this building process. The position will also help maintain the safety of the scene shop and theatres.   Must have carpentry skills and be a self-starter.  This is an advanced position and a great opportunity for Theatre and Art majors.
  • Master Electricians work closely with the Technical Director and Lighting Designer to supervise the hang and focus of stage lighting equipment for all Department of Theatre Productions.  The Master Electrician will assist in maintaining the integrity and safety of the lighting equipment of the theatres.  Must have stage lighting skills and experience.  This is an advanced position and a great opportunity for Theatre Majors and Art Majors.
  • Electricians assist the Lighting Designer, Master Electrician and Technical Director with the hang and focus of the stage lighting equipment for all Department of Theatre Productions.  In addition, the electricians will assist in maintaining the safety of the lighting equipment of the theatres. This is an entry level position and a great opportunity for Theatre and Art Majors.
