2008 - 09 Theatre Season

“(M)other” directed and performed by Dr. Beth OsnesBeth Osnes - (M)other
This performance explores what it might take for the mothers of one country toauthentically care about the mothers and children of another country. The show’s opening describes a fictional program, called “Baby Swapping,” created by the UnitedNations to generate concern for the world’s children. In this small, limited pilot program, seven mothers from seven nations from around the world are required by their governments to swap their six-month-old babies with another mother from anothernation for one month. What follows is an intimate look at one of these mother’s experience and her eventual realization of her interconnectedness with these other mothers, their children, and their nations. The last line of the show states, “I think the hardest part about going back to my old life will be facing the part of me that believed you were ‘other.’ Everything has changed. Before I had asked, Why me?  Why now? Now I ask, if not me, who? If not now, when?”

Beth Osnes - (M)other“Raised in Captivity” by Nicky Silver. Directed by Lisa Kramer
Written by Nicky Silver
Directed by Lisa Kramer
Assistant Directer Amelia A. Charter

According to The New York Times, “Raised in Captivity is about guilt, redemption and self-punishment, and, against all odds, it is also very funny . . .” The complex characters in this play have all been trapped by the expectations laid upon them by their society, their dysfunctional family, and themselves.  Sebastian Bliss keeps himself cut off from all emotion, while his sister Bernadette Dixon goes to the opposite extreme.  They are joined by Bernadette’s husband Kip who is the first to pursue his true dream, a therapist that needs some help herself, a pen-pal convicted of murder, and a ghost to make a play full of surprising humor and deep emotion, as well as a unique theatre experience.  Join us for an unusual show that moves from absurd hysterics to tragic personal drama, and back again.

Beth Osnes - (M)other“Chicago” the Musical
      Written by
      John Kander & Fred Ebb.
      Directed by Ginny Davis.

Sex, murder, greed .... and all that jazz. Set in prohibition era Chicago, John Kander and Fred Ebb's "CHICAGO: The Musical" follows the exploits of the merry murderesses Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart as they achieve celebrity status on the stand. This satire is actually based on the 1924 trials of murderesses Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner. The Chicago Tribune reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins created the original play after writing a series of articles featuring Annan and Gaertner. In 1996, the Broadway revival of "CHICAGO: The Musical" garnered six Tony Awards. Join us for this classic musical with all the songs you know by heart.
